Khalkh Numrug River Basin

Khalkh Numrug River Basin

The catchment area of the Khalkh and Numrug rivers, where a small part of the Khyangan Range extends westward to merge with the Mongolian Great Steppe, is a region of exceptional natural beauty.

All the rivers and streams in this area feed Buir Lake, the blue jewel of Eastern Mongolia. Neighboring the catchment area of the Khalkh and Numrug rivers are other scenic spots, including the Menen Steppe, Tashgai Five Lakes, and the Guu and Azargyn rivers.
The Khalkh River, also known as the Khalkhin Gol, flows through northeastern Eurasia, traversing eastern Mongolia and northeastern Inner Mongolia in China. The western bank of the river is higher than the eastern bank, giving the appearance of a wall when viewed from the east, which is how the river got its name.
In 1939 an undeclared war was held between Japan, Manchu- Soviet Union –Mongolia near Khalkh River.
