Khamariin Khiid Monastery

Sainshand, center of Dornogovi Province, is home to numerous natural and historical attractions that captivate both foreign and domestic tourists.
Most tourists visit Khamariin Khiid, the Energy Center, and Khan Bayanzurkh Mountain.

Khamar Monastery is located 45 kilometers south of Sainshand, the capital of Dornogovi Province. The famous Mongolian enlightener, poet, and noble lama D. Danzanravjaa established Khamar Monastery at a place called Uvur Khamar in 1820 when he was 17 years old. Before 1938, Khamar Monastery consisted of four parts: the Eastern Monastery, Western Monastery, Tsokhon, and Duinkhor. It was a monastery of the Red Hat sect of Buddhism, with over 80 temples and more than 500 lamas.
In the 1830s, he established Mongolia's first theater at Khamar Monastery, named "Namtar Duulah Datsan" (Story Singing School). He also founded a school called "Khüükhdiin Datsan" (Children's School), where not only children but also women were educated and taught to read and write.

The location of Khamar Monastery is considered to be highly energetic, with a vital underground vein, leading to the establishment of the Land of Shambhala. The Land of Shambhala, which means the Land of Enlightenment, symbolizes a divine place that can only be reached through the spirit or mind.
