Khar Zurkh Khukh Nuur is located 35 kilometers north of the central road in the eastern region, northwest of the center of Tsenghermandal sum in Khentii province, near the Tsengher River. Khukh Nuur consists of two interconnected freshwater lakes situated in the hollow of Khar Zurkh Mountain at an altitude of 1675 meters above sea level.
Behind the lake is Khar Zurkh Mountain, which has a sharp peak, no trees on its front side, and forests on its back side. Khukh Nuur is a scenic area rich in various species of wildlife and plants, surrounded by mountains. In this place, in the Year of the Yellow Rooster (1189), Temujin was enthroned as the Khan of All Mongols and given the title of Chinggis Khaan, or the Great Ocean Khaan. ‘’The Secret History of the Mongols’’ mentions the names of places and waters such as Khukh Nuur, Khar Zurkh Mountain, and Sengur Stream.
On the shore of the lake, there is a monument erected in honor of the 840th anniversary of Chinggis Khaan's birth. Surrounding it, in a semicircular area with a diameter of 108 meters, are wooden carvings of the 36 Great Khaans of the Golden Lineage who ruled Mongolia. In the central part of these carvings are depictions of Chinggis Khan, his father Yesükhei, his mother Höelun, and his great queen Börte Üjin. On either side of the main gate are carvings of Genghis Khan's nine generals, and in total, there are 50 wooden carvings in this complex.
