Ikh Burhant

Ikh Burhant

Ikh Burkhant," one of Mongolia's significant historical and cultural monuments, is located 35 km north of Sumber, the center of Khalkhgol sum in Dornod Province, on a 35-degree sloping bank on the right side of the Khalkh River. This monument, created by Khalkh nobleman Bat-Ochiryn Togtokhtör (To prince) (1797-1868), is famously known as "Ikh Shuteen" or "Ikh Burkhant."

Almost a hundred craftsmen sculpted a 30-meter-long reclining statue of the deity Jigsijav Janraisag, the rescuer from eight dangers. However, this magnificent monument was first damaged and destroyed during several disturbances related to the Eastern Chinese Railway at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. It was restored in the autumn of 1997, and this remarkable cultural and historical complex from the 19th century can now be preserved for future generations.
