Yol vallery - Gobi Gurvan Saikhan national park

Discover beautiful Yol valley (translates to Lammergeier Gorge) is located in Govi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Very wide at the entrance, it narrows gradually into a remarkable gorge. A small stream flows through the gorge, which is covered with ice in winter. In some parts of the gorge where the sun never shines, ice thicker than one meter remains. In years with heavy rainfall, four waterfalls flow into the gorge from above. Due to the many cool areas that do not receive sunlight, a refreshing cold air reminiscent of winter flows through the gorge.

Lammergeier- Bearded Vulture
The valley is named "Yolyn Am" because of the presence of the lammergeier, or bearded vulture, known as "Yol" in Mongolian. This bird is a protected species in Mongolia, found only in Central Asia, and inhabits altitudes of 1500-3000 meters. The wingspan of the lammergeier ranges from 2.5 to 3 meters. It has a bluish-brown back, a pale belly and head, and a distinctive beard under its chin. The lammergeier nests at altitudes above 1700 meters, typically laying two eggs in February. It feeds on the carcasses and bones of dead animals.
