Orog Lake is located at the northern foot of Ikh Bogd Mountain in Bogd soum, Bayankhongor province. To the east of the lake, about 1 km away, extends a saxual forest. The lake freezes from November to April.
Here, visitors can see rare birds considered uncommon both internationally and in Mongolia, such as the Dalmatian pelican, whooper swan, saker falcon, and relic gull. Birds like the great cormorant, Dalmatian pelican, ruddy shelduck, and Pallas's gull, with populations exceeding 1% of their global population, pass through this area during migration. Along the shores of the lake, rare plants in Mongolia such as yellow sweet clover and licorice grow.
