Siilhemiin Nuruu national park

The Sïlkhemiin Mountain, located on the border of Ulaankhus and Nogoonnuur soums in Bayan-Ölgii province, extends over 140,000 hectares of land.
In that protected area, species such as the ibex, argali sheep, and snow leopard, as well as other rare and endangered wildlife, inhabit a region marked as 'off-limits' to human activity.


The population of argali sheep in this area has been steadily increasing. According to recent surveys, the number of argali sheep in the Sïlkhemiin Mountain area has grown since 2007, reaching an estimated 2 million, up from the initial count of over 300 thousand in 2007.
