Kharkhiraa Valley

Kharkhiraa Valley

The mountainous region extending from the state border to the Khovd River between Uvs Lake and Achit Lake is called the Kharkhiraa and Turgen Mountains. These twin mountain ranges, branches of the Altai Mountains, feature many majestic and beautiful peaks. The highest peak of the Kharkhiraa Mountains is Most Mountain, standing at 4037 meters above sea level, while the highest peak of the Turgen Mountains is Deglii Tsagaan Mountain, which rises to 3965 meters above sea level. The Kharkhiraa and Turgen Mountains are separated by a pass known as Kharkhiraa Pass. These mountains contain more than ten permanently snow-capped peaks and glaciers, accounting for over 20% of Mongolia's total permanent snow and ice area.

In the middle of the Kharkhiraa and Turgen Mountains lies the Valley of Many Lakes, a naturally beautiful flat area surrounded by snowy mountains. This valley is home to numerous small lakes and is known for its unique characteristics, such as the rare Vansemberuu flower, which grows in the rocky mountain areas.
